About the Artist :
‘Imagination drives the art of creating beyond imagining…’ RG
The art of ‘Typainting’ rare and neat, using a conventional manual typewriter as a medium was an art-form pioneered at the age of 19 in 1973 and by now a master practitioner 46 years on, unflagging. Most of what can be drawn and painted can be type-painted, given from portrait to landscape, still life, life form etc. found in the collection of works done over the years.
No longer limited by the confined of the length of typewriter carriages, having achieved a work done in parts, 3 sections to form a bigger installation and even did pieces by imaging it in the mind to than have to type it sideway and that can thus allow to achieve it at length and width in scale and in panorama.
Having dabble with the arts from jotter book drawings and colour pencils sketches as early as 1965, 11 years old then to poster colours painting in secondary school with works archived, all bearing testament to the very artist’s passion for art at heart at a young age since then. From ‘Typainting’ to ceramic creations and designing, sculpture, batik, mural painting, stage prop and restoration of bigger than life-size warrior statue to add to the list. Is a beyond imagining… when ever given any medium to attempt.
The Typainted Work; Titled: ARIEL’S ROAR - 11” x 15” (28cm x 38cm)
A roaring reminder that from the rising of the sun to the going down of the same who but the King of Kings and Lord of Lords of the universal jungle, ‘green and concrete’ is to be praised.
The Challenge: Having gotten it right for the LION in October, I could just have it finished with a landscape backdrop with little risk to the main character but instead decided to wait, what’s next? Wanting an inspired, inspiring true to life telling that playout daily, adding a lamb would just make it more of religiosity, too common a feature so rather to have a more down to earth HARE instead for grounded reality. Got down to having that little character right too but still seem not there yet, too heavy-weighted. Decided to tamper the roar in order for the art-work to soar, so bring on the EAGLE, for a telling as real as it gets in life. A finished work that clearly depicts elements of ‘apprehension’, of ‘fear’ and of ‘authority’ in life. A first 3-in-1 characterisation ever attempted in a piece. Main theme: A roaring thunder, the ‘Lion of God’ to save the day.
Matthew 23:11 KJV ‘But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant’
